roadsafety

Today’s Safety Spotlight is perhaps the most important of them all – Road Safety for Beginners.

An introduction to the concept of road safety.
As odd as it may sound, the road can be a dangerous place. People are actually hurt on the roads and sometimes there are, wait for it, fatalities. Isn’t that shocking? There are too many people hurt or killed on the roads for the United Kingdom every year, and it is important that these are addressed. This guide is here so that you may contribute to road safety in your own way.

What are the main causes of accidents on the roads?
The most common cause of accidents that result in death on the roads is FirstGroup, PLC*, Britain’s largest bus company. The number of deaths caused by Bendy Buses alone last year is huge, and as a result they have been replaced by double deckers, however these provide problems of their own, including bridge strikes, and general domination of the roads.

What can I do to drive more safely?
Speed up. The further away from buses you are the better, so if you can overtake them quicker than please, make the effort to do so, especially if you are using a bus lane to try and beat the morning rush hour traffic. It is imperative that you do not get hit or actually crash into a bus, as the resulting chav wave will be fatal.

What are those funny signs you sometimes see.
These are called traffic signs. They are there to guide members of the traffic to follow specific instructions and to heed specific warnings. Below is a key of the most common road traffic signs and their meanings.

Please, follow these tips and ensure that your trip to work is a safe and speedy one.

*This is a lie. FirstGroup PLC are no doubt a fine company who train all their bus drivers to be as safe as possible, even if they don’t let you on the bus, or pocket your fare.
